Elva Dixon Bowman, a resident of Kerr Addition and formerly of Spring Valley, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the home of her daughter, Elaine Bowman.
Mrs. Bowman was born Dec. 22, 1919 in Boggs Township, the daughter of Ord and Mary (Butler) Dixon.
She was a member of the Kerr Addition United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
She served for many years on the board, as a trustee and as a Bible school helper. She also helped serve many church dinners.
She was also a member of the Clearfield County Agency on Aging Auxiliary.
Mrs. Bowman retired from the Clearfield Hospital in 1982 as a dietary worker.
She is survived by four children, Sherman Bowman and his wife, Pat of Olanta and Philip Bowman and his wife, Elaine, Phyllis Hirsch and her husband, William and Elaine Bowman and her companion, Larry Welker, all of Clearfield, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bowman was the last member of her generation. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Warren J. Bowman, to whom she was married Jan. 29, 1940 and whom died Nov. 9, 1989.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Andrew and John Bowman; an infant daughter, Priscilla Bowman; two granddaughters, Jodi L. Bowman and Rebecca J. Bowman; four brothers, Donald, Wilbur, John and Luther Dixon; and a sister, Arlene Lumadue.
Honoring Mrs. Bowman’s wishes, there will be no public viewing.
Funeral services will be held for family and friends at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Mark Brower officiating. Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery, Glen Ritchey.
