A Delta flight was diverted to a South Carolina airport on Thursday after the crew reported an engine problem and smoke filled the cabin.
Delta Air Lines Flight 2028 landed safely at Charleston International Airport, according to Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman with the Federal Aviation Administration.
It had departed from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida and was headed to LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
According to Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant, the plane was diverted after a “performance issue” was observed with one of the aircraft’s two engines. Another aircraft was en route to Charleston and will continue the flight to LaGuardia, he said.
Eighty-nine passengers were on the plane.
