BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte turned the tables on the Clearfield Area High School baseball team Tuesday.
One of the four victims of recent Bison comebacks, the Raiders rallied for eight runs in the sixth inning to triumph 10-5 and drop the Bison a full game behind Central in the Mountain League race.
Clearfield fell to 10-3 while Central is 10-1 with three games remaining after edging Bald Eagle Area 4-3.
After being held to one hit by winner Devin Walk through five innings, the Bison took advantage of a Raider misplay to grab a short-lived 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, one run scoring on Tommy Hazel’s single and another when Marcus Luzier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Raiders (9-5, 7-5 ML) responded with six hits off Brandon Orsich in their outburst, the big one a three-run double by Trent Fortney. They were aided by three of the Bison’s four errors.
Adam Kuhn had two hits, one a run-scoring double, and Derek Fries and Jonny Glunt added RBI singles before Will Myers relieved and got the final two outs.
Clearfield (12-4) did pick up two more runs in the seventh. Josh Sorbera chased Walk with an RBI single before Spencer Herrington scored on an error.
Orsich limited the Raiders to five hits and two unearned runs before they erupted in the sixth to tag him with his third loss. Only four of their runs were earned.
Kuhn led Bellefonte with three hits. Glunt, Fries and Vance Przybys had two apiece.
The Bison will be at home for their league finale against Philipsburg-Osceola Thursday.
