Higginbottom Accused of Taking Out a Credit Card in her Ex-husband’s Name

DUBOIS – A DuBois woman is accused of taking out a credit card in her ex-husband’s name and charging over $900.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office April 30, Constance Higginbottom, 48, 5 S. Highland St., DuBois, is charged by the DuBois City police with two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card and one count of theft by unlawful taking.

According to the affidavit, police were contacted by the victim who lives in Colorado in reference to credit card fraud. The victim told police that he had been contacted by Capital One about a purchase they were checking on his credit card.

The victim told Capital One that he does not have that particular credit card. The victim said he was told the card was issued Dec. 4 and mailed to 5 S. Highland St., in DuBois and that the card had a $5,000 limit. The victim said he was told that $901.08 was charged to the card.

The victim told police that he believes the card might have been used by his ex-wife, Connie Jones, also known as Connie Mutko and Connie McCandless.

The officers went to 5 S. Highland St., and spoke to a woman, later identified as Higginbottom. While speaking to Higginbottom, police allegedly learned that she had applied for a credit card in the victim’s name.

Higginbottom allegedly admitted that she has not been married to the victim for about 20 years. The officers took the card from Higginbottom and saw the victim’s name was listed on the card.

The officers spoke to the victim a second time, and were told that the card had been used Dec. 10 at several locations in both DuBois City and Sandy Township, with the purchases totaling $901.08.
