Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Places Speed Display Signs in Centre County

CLEARFIELD – Motorists in Centre County will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit as they travel on Route 322.

PennDOT recently placed a pair of radar-controlled speed display signs to aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.

The eastbound sign is located in Boalsburg, east of Somerset Drive. The westbound sign is located in Potters Mills, west of Mountain Back Road. The speed limit in both of these areas is 55 miles per hour.

The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in more than 50 percent of Centre County crashes in 2014.
