Friday Night Live!
Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre
The final Friday Night Live show of the season will be May 1 at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) in downtown Clearfield.
The comedy music group, Master Exploder, will headline the show. It will be their second performance on the Friday Night Live stage as a Tenacious D tribute group.
Other regular Friday Night Live comedians and musicians will perform at the show, as well as some new acts, said Steve Albert, event organizer. He added that it’s an “open mic/variety show, so bring your best talent and ‘WOW’ the crowd.”
According to Albert, the CAST can seat almost 200 people and he would like to pack the house to end the Friday Night Live season. Admission is $4 per person.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m. The CAST is located at 112 E. Locust St. in downtown Clearfield.

Reitz Theater
“Mother Hicks is a witch, people say,” is a repeated phrase in Susan Zeder’s play about three misunderstood “outsiders” in the town of Ware, Illinois in 1935 during the Great Depression.
The play centers around a pre-teen orphan known as “Girl” who struggles to find her true identity and where she belongs. Mother Hicks is considered an “outsider” because she is a recluse in the hills outside the close-knit town that is wary of her different ways.
Finally, Tuc, who lives in the hills, is also “outside” the community because he is deaf and mute. Yet each of these outsiders seems more grounded than the scared society that shuns them.
In a time of fear and misfortune, the “outsider” must be to blame. The story is narrated by the deaf character, Tuc, who signs as the chorus and individuals speak his “word-pictures.” Zeder’s play evokes laughter, pathos, wonder and mystery and is enchantingly fit for the whole family.
Director Gayle Gearhart urges audience members to park early for each performance in order to delight in the added bonus of live-performance music from the era before and throughout each performance.
Featuring some great local talent from the tri-county area and offering an interpreter for the deaf for three of the shows. This is a show for the entire family.
Shows are May 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $5 for children.

Coalport Flea/Farmer’s Market
The flea market will open the first Saturday of May and continue through October. The farmer’s market will open the first Saturday of June and continue through October. Both markets are held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Beechwood Park in Coalport; set up will begin at 6:30 a.m.
The flea market space is $15 per month. If you set up all six months, the cost for space is $50; you will get your first month free.
The farmer’s market spaces are limited to food products and plants; you provide your own tables, chairs, etc. The space costs $10 per vendor per day. If you sign up for all five months, it is $40; your first month is free.

Wild Canoe/Kayak Race
West Branch of the Susquehanna River
The 14th annual West branch of the Susquehanna River Wild Canoe/Kayak Race will be held May 2. The entry fee is $15 per boater.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Rolling Stone Bridge, Karthaus. The race will start at 11 a.m.
