CLEARFIELD – On April 29, the Clearfield Borough Police Department responded to and investigated a tanker leak in the area of Bigler Avenue and North Third Street.

According to police, a tanker was traveling west on Bigler Avenue when its passenger’s side front tire struck a 15-inch by 1.5-inch metal rebar that was on the roadway.

The rebar penetrated the bottom of a diesel fuel tank on the passenger’s side of the tanker’s cab, which caused a large hole.  The rebar then fell back onto the roadway, police said.

This caused diesel fuel to leak onto the roadway at the intersection of Daisy Street and Bigler Avenue. The tanker’s operator then stopped at the intersection of Bigler Avenue and North Third Street, police said.

Crews used “Oil Dry” to contain the leak and plugged the hole in the tank, according to police. Police noted employees from NAPA Auto Parts quickly responded with approximately 10 bags of “Oil Dry” to prevent fuel from entering into storm drains and the Susquehanna River.

The Clearfield Fire Department, Clearfield Emergency Management Agency, Clearfield Borough Crew and PennDOT assisted at the scene with cleanup of the fuel.  The Clearfield Fire Department supplied additional bags of “Oil Dry.”
