Speakers Slated for Clearfield Co. Senior Environment Corps Meeting

CURWENSVILLE – There will be two speakers at the May meeting of the Clearfield County Senior Environment Corps (SEC).

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. May 4 at the Curwensville Community Center at 11 Stadium Dr., Curwensville. Both presentations are free and open to anyone.

Dr. Md. Khalequzzaman, who is a professor of geology from Lock Haven University, will be giving a presentation on the Clearfield County SEC stream water monitoring program.

Genevieve Elsworth will discuss the specific resources available and how to locate abandoned oil and gas wells. Elsworth is the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research Community Science Volunteer coordinator.

The title of Khalequzzaman‘s presentation is “Community-Based Water Quality Monitoring in Marcellus Shale Drilling Regions in Clearfield County, PA”.

Khalequzzaman will share the results of field and lab analyses of water samples that the Clearfield Chapter of the Pennsylvania SEC and the Water and Soil Lab at LHU collected on a monthly basis for the last two years from several sub-watersheds within the West Branch of Susquehanna River watershed.

A plan for future research directions will also be discussed with participating citizen naturalists.
