East Hartford, CT (WFSB) — Monday was a very special birthday for an East Hartford resident.

World War II veteran William Kent turned 103 on Monday, and was given a long overdue honor for his service to the country.

Kent is the second oldest living World War II veteran in the state, and on Monday the Mayor of East Hartford presented him with a wartime service medal and a marble copy of the East Hartford town seal.

“I had no idea any of this was coming along. No, no…it’s been great,” Kent said.

During his time in the service, Kent served all over the world.

He said he spent time in France and even Panama.

Although he was born in Wisconsin, Kent has lived in Connecticut for 60 years.
