Reminder: Detour Coming Monday for Shawville Bridge Job

Section of Route 879 will be closed; detour to last six weeks

CLEARFIELD – With work to replace the Shawville Truss Bridge on Route 970 continuing, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reminds area drivers that a section of Route 879 near the bridge will be closed on April 27. At that time, a six-week detour will go into effect.

The 38-day detour for Route 879 will make use of Route 879, Interstate 80 and Route 970. Signage will be in place to alert motorists to the detour. PennDOT expects the detour to be in place through June 3.

The detour is necessary so that roadway grade and slope work can take place. This work will enhance sight distance at the Route 879/Route 1006 intersection.  Roadway reconstruction and installation of new drainage pipes will also take place.

The new bridge is being built upstream from the existing one, which has allowed PennDOT to keep the truss bridge in service to this point. When work is finished this summer, area drivers will benefit from smoother, safer travel over a modern structure.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $5 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
