PENFIELD – Parker Dam State Park hosted an Earth Day Celebration on Wednesday. Approximately 130 students from nine area schools participated in the day’s activities.
The schools that participated were: Brookville Area High School, Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School, Curwensville Area High School, Dubois Area High School, Elk County Catholic High School, Johnsonburg Area High School, Moshannon Valley High School, Punxsutawney Area High School and St. Marys Area High School.
The Earth Day Celebration began in 2007 and has been held at Parker Dam State Park each year since. The event is a cooperative effort by the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks and other conservation agencies.
Throughout the day, students visited with presenters from the Clearfield County Conservation District, state’s Bureau of Forestry, state’s Bureau of State Parks, state’s Fish & Boat Commission, state’s Game Commission, Trout Unlimited and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Each presenter passed on to students who attended interesting knowledge and a message of conservation regarding valuable natural resources, whether forests, reptiles and amphibians, soil, water, or wildlife.
Educating students on the value of natural resources and instilling with them an appreciation of the natural environment is one step in creating future stewards of the planet who will make every day Earth Day.
