Betty A. (Bunyak) Ponist, 85, of Madera died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Born Feb. 23, 1930 in Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Duke) Bunyak.
She married the late Paul M. Ponist on Sept. 13, 1947 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Houtzdale.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Josephine Petruna, Kathryn Duke, Leona Shedlock and Irene Zendek.
She is survived by one daughter, Pauline (John) Beirlair of Dubois; one son, John (Sue) Ponist of Madera; four sisters, Regina Klusak of Maryland and Anna Joyce, Madeline Taddeo and Theresa Bilinsky, all of Ohio; and three brothers, Leonard Bunyak and Thomas Bunyak, both of Ohio, and Bernard Bunyak of Tennessee.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, John C. Beirlair, Jonathan (Michele) Ponist and Wendi Ponist and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Ponist, Gabriel Ponist and John R. Beirlair.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Madera. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with the Father Marc J. Solomon as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Madera.
