MILESBURG – Work will get under way Wednesday to repair the Route 144 Truss Bridge in the borough of Milesburg, Centre County.
The bridge will be repaired one side at a time, with non-truck traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.
While trucks will be allowed across the bridge for local deliveries, a detour will be in effect for truck traffic moving through the area. Trucks will be detoured to use Routes 220/I-99/26, 150, Alternate 220/150, I-80 and 150/144.
The current bridge spans Bald Eagle Creek. It was originally built in 1930 and saw reconstruction work in 1977. The bridge carries an average of more than 9,100 vehicles daily. Replacing the bridge will provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across a modern structure.
Overall work will include structural steel repairs, concrete deck replacement, superstructure painting, concrete repairs, milling, paving, guiderail updates, concrete sidewalk installation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $2.4 million project. Work is expected to be complete late this year. There is a possibility that plantings for the project could take place in spring of 2016.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow applicable detours, use caution in and around work zones, and always buckle up.
