Traffic Impacts Start next Week on Route 322 PMG Project

STATE COLLEGE – As Phase One of the three-phase Potters Mills Gap project continues, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is alerting drivers to lane closures that will begin this week in the project area.

On Tuesday, the eastbound and westbound passing (left) lanes will be closed through the project area, between the village of Potters Mills and the top of Seven Mountains.

The lane closures will be in place through Aug. 20. The lane closures will allow the contractor to excavate footer for the pier and erect the pier column.

Message boards and signing will be in place to alert motorists to the lane restrictions. Drivers are reminded to move through all construction zones with caution and to obey posted speed limits.

Work to construct a two-span concrete beam bridge over Route 322 at the Sand Mountain Road intersection, just west of Seven Mountains began in March.

Overall work will include bridge construction, design and construction of the roadway, infiltration basins, traffic control, and miscellaneous items. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Jay Fulkroad and Sons of McAlisterville is the contractor on this $2 million project, made possible by ACT 89 funding. Work will continue through September.

Once all three phases are complete, congestion through this area will be reduced and traffic will move more smoothly along Route 322.
