Lady Tide Back On Track, Defeat Brockway 8-2

BROCKWAY – A strong pitching performance by the Lady Tide’s Rylee Young coupled with another flawless defensive performance propelled Curwensville to an 8-2 win over Brockway in girls softball action Thursday afternoon.

The victory on the Lady Rovers’ home field gave the Lady Tide an overall record of 4-2 on the 2015 season.  The win also broke a short two-game losing streak for Curwensville.

Young went the distance in the circle for the Tide to pick up the win, giving up just five hits while striking out a season high of 11 Brockway hitters.

Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey said after the win, “We really practiced hard yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.  We challenged them to play better today and they certainly responded.”

Then Leigey spoke of two players who helped make the win possible, commenting, “Rylee (Young) pitched a terrific game and was really focused out there. And (Hannah) Dixon turned in some unbelievable plays at shortstop.”

For the second straight game the Lady Tide did not commit one error.

The Curwensville offense was paced by first baseman Nikki Harker who had two hits and three RBI’s.

Second baseman Kayley Harnett, leftfielder Megan McCartney and Young also added two hits each in the 12-hit Curwensville attack.

Leigey finished by saying, “This was a good team win. We played exactly the way I expected them to play.”

The Lady Tide are home Friday when they host Brookville in a game that starts at 4:15 pm.
