State police at DuBois say that human remains recovered Wednesday have been identified as that of a missing 37-year-old Julian woman, Susan L. Bachman.
On the morning of July 4, 2014, Bachman was being driven to the Clarion Psychiatric Center for a mental health evaluation. She jumped from a moving vehicle onto the berm at mile-marker 77.6 on Interstate 80 westbound in Rose Township, Jefferson County.
Bachman fled into the woods; investigative and search efforts yielded physical evidence of Bachman. However, Bachman was never located by search crews, according to state police.
State police said new evidence was recently located in the area where Bachman had fled into the woods. On Wednesday, state police converged on the area to prepare for a cadaver dog search that was scheduled for Monday.
During the preliminary search, state police located human remains that were identified as those of Bachman. The investigation is continuing, and no further information will be released at this time, state police said.
Dr. Dennis C. Dirkmaat, director of The Applied Forensic Sciences Department, Mercyhurst College, and 20 members of the Masters of Forensic & Biological Anthropology Program assisted at the scene, according to state police.
