Obituary Notice: Clarence T. Bennett

Clarence Tracy “Sonny” Bennett, 82, of Curwensville, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.

Born Oct. 15, 1932 in Forksville, Sullivan County, he was the son of Howard and Lettie (Huffsmith) Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was retired from the former Ames Department stores as a store manager.

After retirement he had worked for Lezzer Lumber Co. in Curwensville, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Photo Licensing Center in Clearfield and the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging in its “Meals on Wheels” program.

He was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

On Nov. 26, 1953 in Williamsport, Mr. Bennett wed the former Pauline Mary Callahan. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2011 in Pittsburgh.  Mr. Bennett was also preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a son, Patrick E. Bennett and his wife, Denise of Curwensville and two grandsons, Daniel Bennett and his wife, Missy of Hollidaysburg and Joseph Bennett and his wife, Michelle of Grampian.

He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Alison and Matthew Bennett, both of Hollidaysburg, and Judson and Lillian Bennett, both of Grampian, and two brothers, Russell Bennett and his wife, Rosemary of Forksville and Jack Bennett and his wife, Bonnie of Dushore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Friday when the procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. by members of the St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to the St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society, 306 Walnut St., Curwensville, PA 16833.
