“Doggone” Run/Walk to be Held May 9

CURWENSVILLE – The Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic/Animal Welfare Council will hold its “Doggone” 5/10K Run/Fun Walk on May 9 at the Curwensville Lake – 1256 Lake Dr., Curwensville.

The run/walk will get under way at 8:30 a.m.; packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the pavilion. The event will consist of a 5K run/walk; a one-mile fun walk; and a 10K run.

All events are open to participants and their dogs. There is a $15 entry fee for the 5/10K; there is a $10 entry fee for the one-mile fun walk.

Registration forms can be obtained at the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic at 1380 Shawville Hwy. in Woodland (beside the Woodland Post Office); on the Animal Welfare Council Web Site; at the Clearfield YMCA or Tracy’s Tanning in Philipsburg; or by e-mailing info@animal411.net.

Participants should pre-register for the event by April 30 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Leashed pets are welcomed and encouraged to join participants in the events. All dog owners must have proof of a current rabies vaccine.

Certificates will be awarded to top male and female finishers in all age groups. The event will take place rain or shine and the course will encompass some wooded trails.  The 10K participants will repeat the course twice.

There will be water stations at every mile marker and water and fruit at the end. There will also be homemade baked goods and door prizes.

Anyone bringing and donating an item from the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic wish list will get an extra door prize ticket.

Items on the wish list include: dog food, cat food/litter, paper towels, stamps, copy paper, envelopes (business size), trash bags (tall and 55 gallon), dog shampoo, dish detergent, antibacterial soap, bleach and betadine/iodine.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses or individuals for the event and will help raise funds to help animals. Anyone wanting to be a sponsor or volunteer to help with the 5/10K should call 814-857-5280.

More information about the “Doggone” 5/10K can be found on AWC Web site and Facebook page. The “Doggone” 5/10K is being held in conjunction with Curwensville Lake’s “Doggone Fun Day,” a day full of activities to celebrate pets.

All proceeds from the “Doggone” 5/10K benefit the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic/Animal Welfare Council, a non-profit organization.
