Shaw Public Library Celebrates National Library Week 2015

CLEARFIELD – As National Library Week approaches, the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library invite area residents of all ages to discover the “Unlimited Possibilities @ your library.”

The Shaw Public Library encourages the community to stop by the library during the week-long celebration of libraries and learn about the services and programs offered to library cardholders.

For the 16th year, the Friends of the Shaw Public Library will be launching the annual fundraising campaign during National Library Week.  “It is our hope that the generosity that the community has shown the library over the years continues this year,” stated Paula Collins, director.

The Friends of the Shaw Public Library sponsor special event performers and programs, provide financial assistance to the library for technology equipment and expenses and provide funding for facility improvement projects, such as the recent carpet replacement.

Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child will be celebrated on Tuesday.  Children ages 6 months through 5 years old and their families are encouraged to register for the 10:30 a.m. session or the 1:30 p.m. session.  The program is sponsored by the Clearfield Kiwanis organization and features special guest readers, activities, and refreshments.

“The library is thankful to be collaborating with the Clearfield Kiwanis on this popular and worthwhile program once again,” said Collins.  “This is the 10th year for the PA One Book, Every Young Child to be celebrated.  The program is so important because it highlights the significance of early literacy and reading to young people.”

Each family in attendance will receive a copy of the 2015 selection, Number One Sam by Greg Pizzoli.  Registration is limited to 60 families.

The library is also holding a Food Drive Amnesty Program for overdue books. The program is intended to encourage the return of library materials by users whose overdue fines are keeping them from coming back to the library.

A cardholder may return overdue materials with one non-perishable food donation per item and all fines on returned materials will be waived.  The food drive began on April 6 and will continue through April 30.

Individuals can stop by Shaw Public Library from now until the end of the month to take advantage of the amnesty program.  The library welcomes individuals without overdue materials to contribute to the food drive.

Donations need to be dropped off at the library by April 30.  All nonperishable food items collected will be donated to the Clearfield Ministerium Food Pantry.

The Shaw Public Library urges everyone to visit and explore the facility.  The library has seven public access computers available.  This exciting new technology is available to anyone with a library card, stated Collins.

The Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
