Obituary Notice: Joan L. Hipps

Joan L. Hipps, 88, of Mineral Springs died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Hipps was born March 22, 1927 in Mineral Springs, the daughter of Charles and Nancy (Wisor) Peters.

She had worked in the meat department at Riverside Market.

Mrs. Hipps was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Hipps Sr. and his wife, Glenna of Olanta and Tim Hipps and his wife, Trudy of Hershey and four grandchildren, Frank Hipps Jr. and his wife, Beth, Holly Hipps, Tim Hipps II and his wife, Kristin and Tarrah Berrier and her husband, Andrew.

She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Paige Palmer, Hunter Hipps, Emma Hipps, Cassie Hipps, Tigue Hipps and Eamon Hipps and one brother, Neldon Peters and his wife, Jane.

Mrs. Hipps was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl “Ed” Hipps, whom died Oct. 4, 2003 and to whom she was married on Nov. 2, 1948; two brothers, Charles and McKnight Peters; and two sisters, Betty Stone and Gerry Wilson.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, with Pastor Sean Patrick Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. An additional hour of viewing will be held at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
