DA Shaw Gives Update on Osceola Mills Shooting

OSCEOLA MILLS – The two men who were involved in a shooting incident Wednesday at the Osceola Mills Veterans of Foreign Wars post have been identified by Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr.

The men were Robert Dwayne Hanson, 55, and Jeffrey Lynn Swanson, 44, both of Osceola Mills. The men allegedly engaged in a physical altercation outside of the VFW, which involved a handgun and multiple shots being fired, said Shaw.

According to Shaw, Hanson sustained a “grazing gunshot wound to the head;” Swanson sustained “a gunshot wound to the chest.” He said both men were transported to UPMC Altoona for treatment and are still hospitalized at this time.

“Swanson is in critical condition and Hanson is expected to be released later this date,” said Shaw. He said that the shooting is being investigated by the state police at Clearfield.

So far as the investigation, Shaw said that: “State police have interviewed dozens of witnesses and this investigation should be wrapped up in the near future.

“It is critical to have a clear and precise understanding of what exactly occurred during this incident. State police will leave no rock unturned to gather all of the facts necessary to completely analyze this case.”

Shaw thanked the state police and the Decatur Township police for their “hard work and immediate response” to the shooting incident.  He also thanked the Osceola Mills Fire Department and the ambulance service for their assistance on-scene during the investigation.

Shaw said everyone worked diligently to minimize the inconvenience to the Osceola Mills VFW and the neighborhood.  Shaw said he was “proud of the hard work by our law enforcement and first responders.”
