Alvin Wesley Allen, 90, of Dallas Ga., and formerly of New York, Florida and Redden Hill, Bells Landing, Pa., died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
Born July 15, 1924 in Stratford, NH, he was the son of Clayton Burnett and Ina Bell (Barney) Allen. Mr. Allen was retired as a machinist for Niagara Cutter Tool and Die Co. in North Tonawanda, NY.
He attended the Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church in Dallas, Ga., and was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Ansonville, Pa. He was a “born again Christian.”
He was also a member of the Senior Group of Zion Baptist Church. He attended the prayer meetings there, and was a former custodian of the church. He also enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp.
On Sept. 7, 1946, he wed the former Ruth E. Wood, whom survives along with two daughters and two sons, Kathryn Hibbard and her husband, Keith of Dallas, Ga., David Allen and his wife, Candy of Sanborn, NY, Larry Allen and his wife, Jeannine of Tonawanda, NY and Valerie Williams and her husband, Daniel of Paxinos, Pa. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua; and a sister, Mary Allen Halber. He was the last member of his generation.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Baptist Church, 12004 Tyrone Pike, Irvona, with Pastor Brian D. Barrett officiating.
Burial will be in the Watts Cemetery Redden Hill, Bells Landing, Pa.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., 300 State St., Curwensville, and again from 12 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
