DUBOIS – The Cosmetology  and Health Assistant  programs at Jeff Tech in Reynoldsville teamed up to provide a “Service Day” for the residents at Christ the King Manor  in DuBois.

The two Career and Technical Education programs were given the OK by the new director at Jeff Tech, Barry Fillman, to go to the facility for the event.

Each shop utilized skills obtained in their programs to offer assistance to the residents at the manor.

Students in the Health Assistant program passed ice, made beds, fed residents in the skilled dining room and helped transport residents within the facility.

These students were overseen by the Jeff Tech Health Assistant instructor Nannette Vota.

Under the direction and supervision of Bonnie Skinner, the Cosmetology instructor at Jeff Tech, Cosmetology students offered hand massages, manicures and hairstyling to the residents.

The students wanted to do something to give back to the community, and the instructors noted that the students absolutely loved the experience.

Each of these programs plans to continue to provide service days in the future. The instructors have stated that providing hands-on, real world opportunities for students is what Career and Technical Education is all about.
