CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved to continue a medical services agreement with Dr. Lawrence S. Levinson, medical director at the Clearfield County Jail.

During his report, Solicitor Kim Kesner said he had prepared the agreement at the request of Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen, chair. He said she had indicated receiving a request for a continuation agreement, and the one he had prepared included a pay increase of $10,000 for Levinson.

Kesner said the commissioners had an existing medical services agreement that was approved some years ago. He said it was amended in 1999 and in 2002 to provide for pay increases. Kesner said this third amendment provided for a medical services agreement with Levinson at $40,000 per year.

According to Robinson-McMillen, Levinson hasn’t received a pay raise since 2002. She said he has taken very good care of the inmates at the CCJ.

Robinson-McMillen said the commissioners researched the costs related to medical service agreements at jails in surrounding counties. She said she believes that Levinson provides good services for a reasonable price.

Both Commissioners John A. Sobel and Mark B. McCracken said they were satisfied with the services Levinson provides at the CCJ. McCracken said the jail warden has also recommended continuing the medical services agreement with Levinson.

The commissioners subsequently voted 3-0 to approve the continuation of medical services agreement with Levinson. It will be effective April 1.
