Passages to Raise Awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

DUBOIS – Did you know that you probably talked to someone today who has been a victim of sexual assault?  Maybe, it was a family member, a friend or a cashier at a convenience store.

If not today, then at some point in your life, you have met someone who has dealt with the pain, the emotional distress and the countless other long-term effects of sexual abuse.

You might not know this about them; they may not ever tell you.  But one in five women and one in 71 men have been a victim of rape in their lifetime, according to information provided by Passages Inc.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Through local and national events and campaigns, SAAM highlights sexual violence as a preventable problem.

PASSAGES and other sexual assault programs throughout the country will intensify their efforts to promote public awareness of sexual assault issues.
