Barbara A. Schaffer, 80, of DuBois died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born July 22, 1934 in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth “Gamey” and Elizabeth (Haley) Showers.
On July 16, 1955, she married Bernell J. Schaffer. He survives.
She retired from the City of DuBois as a bookkeeper after 21 years of service.
She was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, where she was very active in the music ministry as a cantor. She also was chairman of the autumn festival at St. Catherine’s.
She was a past president of the DuBois Little League Auxiliary and both a Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts leader. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and most importantly, spending time with her family.
She is survived by five children, Brenda Edwards and her husband, Timothy; Kenneth Schaffer and his wife, Lisa; Andrew Schaffer and his wife, Nancy; Steven Schaffer and his wife Karen; and Timothy Schaffer and his wife, Angela, all of DuBois.
She is also survived by two brothers, John Showers and his wife, Joyce of Brockway and Theodore Showers and his wife, Jean of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Bailey and brother, Kenneth Showers.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.
A scriptural wake service will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
