Leon C. Muir, 79, of Philipsburg died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born June 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Connor and Marjorie (Smeal) Muir.  He married the former Linda Tobias on Dec. 9, 1961 in Woodland. She survives at home.

Mr. Muir was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg.

He had served in the U.S. Army.  He enjoyed gardening, reading and camping at the Clarion River with his family.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and going to their sporting and band events.

He was the principal at the Philipsburg Junior High School until his retirement. Prior to being principal, he was also a teacher, counselor and assistant principal at the junior high school.

Mr. Muir was a 1953 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. He was a 1958 graduate of the Lock Haven (State Teacher’s College) University.  He earned his Master’s degree in education and received his counseling and principal’s certificate from Penn State.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Gladys Jane Muir and a grandson, Elliott Albert.

Along with his wife, Mr. Muir is survived by four children, Laura Albert and her husband, Drew of Chester Hill, Allen Muir and his wife, Karin of Lewistown, Karin Muir and her fiancé, William Kehler of Philipsburg and Megan Grivas and her husband, Michael of Monroeville.

He is survived by a brother, Thomas Muir and his wife, Nell of Lamar.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Erin Albert of Bridgewater, Va., Kyle and Marissa Albert, both of Chester Hill, and Connor and Benet Muir, both of Lewistown; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg with Pastor Mark Thumma officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.

The Muir family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the church Friday.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
