According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Feb. 23, an officer with the Clearfield Borough police observed a tan Toyota Corolla with a New York tag traveling on North Third Street. The officer allegedly observed that its passenger’s side headlight was out and initiated a traffic stop in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot.
Upon making contact with the vehicle’s operator, the officer allegedly detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police determined that the operator, Dillon, was driving under a suspended license. Dillon was asked to exit the vehicle and apprehended on warrants through Domestic Relations and the Pennsylvania State Police.
During the course of the traffic stop, the front seat passenger identified himself as Tyler Davis with an incorrect date of birth. County Control advised police that there weren’t any records showing for Davis. Davis was later identified as Smith and informed he was under investigation, as the officer believed he’d provided a false name.
According to the affidavit, Smith allegedly continued to tell the officer that his name was Tyler Davis. Smith was subsequently detained for purposes of his identification. When the officer placed him in handcuffs, Smith stated his correct name and date of birth. Police found Smith was wanted through Centre County and placed him under a detainer. Smith was also allegedly found in possession of $370 cash.
Rear seat passenger, Torres, was asked to exit the vehicle. When the officer asked if she had anything on her, she turned over items, including a bag with a green, leafy substance that was identified as marijuana. Torres was subsequently taken into custody.
Another rear seat passenger was identified as Womack. He was asked to exit the vehicle and determined to be wanted in Lancaster County. He was also found to be on probation. Womack was subsequently taken into custody.
Due to sufficient probable cause, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. Officers allegedly located two syringes in the immediate area of Smith’s seat. Under the front passenger’s seat in the area of Womack, officers found a cigarette pack containing 12 individually packaged bags of cocaine, 31 stamp bags of heroin and three benzodiazepines.
The cocaine and heroin were field tested, which returned positive results for both, the affidavit states. A purse, which belonged to Torres was located in the corner of the rear seat; officers allegedly found $965 cash inside her purse.
Police found Dillon was operating a third-party rental vehicle. It was rented to an individual who wasn’t at the scene. Torres provided police with the rental agreement, which showed the vehicle was to be returned on Feb. 16, according to the affidavit.
All evidence – cocaine, heroin, marijuana and pills – will be sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Erie Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis.
