CLEARFIELD – The Bucktail Council has established a fund with the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation to support Camp Mountain Run.
Camp Mountain Run was donated the council in 1932, according to Gregg T. Bennett, scout executive and chief executive officer of the Bucktail Council.
The new fund will support the operations of the camp, items needed for the various programs and maintenance. It will cover “everything that goes into making a summer camp happen,” Bennett said.
The camp located near Penfield, consists of 390 acres with a lake and stream, biking trails, rifle and archery range, pool, cabins, campsites, dining hall and other permanent buildings for indoor programs.
Today, Camp Mountain Run is a coeducational aquatic and camping adventure of a lifetime offering a combination of experiences. The camp operates on a full twelve-month schedule.
In addition to summer programs offered to Scouts, Camp Mountain Run serves as a conference center for adult leaders of Scouting and other related not-for-profit agencies, according to information supplied by Bennett.
The camp also serves scouting’s membership living within a 500-mile radius with short-term programs conducted on weekends. Elementary school children from surrounding communities participate in two-day environmental workshops held at the camp during the school year.
The camp is also the site for the annual Polar Bear Campout and Klondike Derby. This year there were 20 troops that represented 18 communities attending, according to published reports.
A pre-camp leader meeting is scheduled for April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the camp. Leaders attending can meet with the 2015 camp staff and learn about the exciting new programs offered this year.
The first week of Boy Scout Resident Camp runs from June 21 to June 27, week 2 is from June 28 to July 4 and the last week will be July 12 through July 18. Webelos Resident Camp is July 23 to July 26. For more information, go to www.bucktail.org/camping.
