CLEARFIELD – Staff members at Visit Clearfield County (VCC) have announced the weekly events for Feb.27-March 5.

Ritz Theater, downtown Clearfield

Monday-Sunday

The theater’s lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. You can grab some popcorn, even if you cannot attend the movie showings. For movies and show times, please call 814-765-5835.

Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children (12 years and under) and senior citizens (60 years and older).

Friday, Feb. 27

Ice Skating Sessions

Friends of Parker Dam

Ice skating sessions are scheduled from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Fridays and from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturdays until the ice becomes unsafe.  At these skating sessions, skate rentals are available, as well as hot chocolate, hot dogs and chili from the Friends of Parker Dam.  The skating area (not skate rentals) is open daily during normal park hours (8 a.m. – dusk), after any snow on the rink has been cleared by park staff. Parker Dam State Park is located at 28 Fairview Rd., Penfield. Call 814-765-0630 for more information.

Treasure Lake

The Treasure Lake Recreation Department and the Sportsmen’s Club invite you to hit the ice from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Feb. 27. You can bring your own skates and enjoy hot chocolate provided by the recreation department. Some skates will also be available. Ice Skating Day is for Treasure Lake residents and lodging guests only.

Almost Overnighter

Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center

Kids can join the staff at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center for an almost overnighter. Kids can bring their sleeping bag and pillow for an indoor camping trip that’s not quite an overnighter from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Feb 27.

The almost overnighter will feature folklore stories in the story tent, fire safety with Smokey the Bear, a look up at the night sky in the theater, campfire snacks around the pretend campfire and free time on the exhibits.

The cost is $10 per child. Please pre-register your child by calling 814-938-1000. It is ideal for children in grades K-6. Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is located at 201 N. Findley St., Punxsutawney.

Day of Dance!

DuBois Mall

The Day of Dance will be a “heart-beating, feet-tapping, finger-snapping, song-singing, fun-loving, laughter-filled” day to kick up your health. The public is invited to join for a free event filled with health education, dancing and highlights of what is happening with health care in the region. “Bluebird Program”

Elk Country Visitor Center

You can enjoy a presentation on the Eastern Bluebird. During this program, you’ll learn interesting facts about the bluebird, such as its preferred habitat, reasons they are declining and what you can do to help.

Bluebird box kits will be available to take home upon request. You can join the 1 p.m. program in the Discovery Room. The Elk Country Visitor Center is located at 134 Homestead Dr., Benezette. Please use 950 Winslow Hill Rd. in a navigation system.  For more information, call 814-787-5167.

Oldies Party

Lakeview Lodge

You can take a step back in time with a night of golden oldies with DJ Hock at the Lakeview Lodge on Feb. 28 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.  You can listen to your old-time favorites and drink specials from the 40’s to the 60’s. Winter Adventures

Trail Blazer Adventures

Trail Blazer Adventures has announced 2015 Winter Adventures, including XC ski and snowshoe, weather conditions permitting, through March 15.

Trail Blazer Adventures will meet at Aletta’s Farm Market (located on the Curwensville/Grampian Highway) every Sunday at 2 p.m. to snowshoe/XC-ski the Clearfield/Grampian Rail-Trail or Bilger’s Rocks Trails.

After trail-blazing at your own pace, everyone will meet at the Place of Rocks Roadhouse for refreshments.

“Children Story Time”

You can join a staff member for story hour. The staff will be reading several books that are natured-themed. Business Over Breakfast

Clarion Hotel

You can join the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce for the first “Business Over Breakfast” for 2015 at 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 2 at the Clarion Hotel.

Penn Highlands Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Ray Graeca and President John Sutika will provide an update on the recently consolidated group of healthcare facilities here in the region.

You will hear what is occurring strategically for Penn Highlands Brookville, Clearfield, Elk and DuBois and how the region will benefit from it.

Open House

Clearfield County Career & Technology Center

All potential and current students, parents/guardians, faculty, administration and the community at large are invited to attend the annual open house from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. March 5 at the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center.

Instructors will be available to discuss their programs and answer questions. It will include refreshments, free blood pressure screening, program demonstrations and project displays.

Community News

Elk Antler (Shed) Hunt

Quehanna Industrial Development Corp.

The first-ever Elk Antler (Shed) Hunt will be held through May 30 with Quehanna Industrial Development Corp.

The area for this hunt will be in the Pennsylvania Elk Management Area. Sheds must come from the wild elk herd and not a game farm/preserve.

The registration fee is $10. It must be paid with registration. Participants must be a 2015 member of the QIDC at $5 per year.
