ESPN writer rallies help in search for missing son

The country’s top sports writers have rallied to help find a colleague’s son who has been missing for four days.

Max Maisel, the son of ESPN.com senior writer Ivan Maisel, went missing Sunday evening from the upstate New York campus of Rochester Institute of Technology, where Max is a student.

The Maisel family put out a statement Wednesday asking the public to help search for Max.

“We are heartbroken,” the family’s statement read. “At this point we still have more questions than answers. We are asking for the public… to help us as we continue our search for Max and try to reconstruct where he has been and when.”

Soon after, tweets of support from fellow sports reporters began to pour in on social media.

“Passing on the news of Ivan Maisel’s son in hopes of a positive ending,” tweeted ESPN’s sports business reporter Darren Rovell.

Others in the ESPN community like Dick Vitale, Rick Reilly, and Mike Tirico also tweeted out the news.

The sports network issued a statement that its thoughts are with the Maisel family.

“Ivan is a caring and respected member of the ESPN family and we are hopeful that more information comes to light and good news lies ahead,” the statement read.

Other prominentd sports writers like Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports and Richard Deitsch and Peter King of Sports Illustrated also sent tweets in support of the Maisel family.
