Political dirt digger joins Jeb Bush PAC

Former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s political action committee has hired Tim Miller, the director of a Republican opposition firm and former party communications official, to join his political action committee, another sign that he’s taking steps toward announcing a presidential campaign.

Miller will step down as executive director of America Rising, a group that specializes in producing opposition research against Democrats. He previously worked at the Republican National Committee, was a spokesman for Jon Huntsman in 2012 and worked on John McCain’s 2008 campaign. He will serve Bush’s “Right to Rise” PAC as a senior adviser.

The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, and Miller confirmed his plans to CNN.

“Thrilled and honored to work for a great person with the right message,” Miller wrote on his Twitter account Friday.

Miller is a know figure among political circles in Washington, D.C. and has a wide range of contacts among political reporters. His work with America Rising, which has spent significant resources exploring the past of possible Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton, could prove to be a strong asset for Bush’s arsenal should he run.
