State Police: Electrical Malfunction Caused Decatur Twp. Fire

DECATUR TOWNSHIP – Damage is estimated at approximately $25,000 after an accidental fire, which was caused by an electrical malfunction, Thursday at a residence located at 224 Old Route 322 in Decatur Township, reported the state police at Clearfield.

According to the report, occupant Clifford L. Breon noticed the smell of plastic burning when he woke up for work. Upon further investigation, he found a plastic toy box had melted with its contents burning. Breon was able to partially extinguish the fire.

However, fire was found in the attic. The Philipsburg Fire Department was dispatched and extinguished the fire, state police said. State police determined an electrical malfunction in the ceiling/attic area caused a smoldering fire to occur and the contents of the room to ignite.
