Cold Conditions Postpone Detour for State College Building Construction

STATE COLLEGE – With cold weather conditions impacting the prep work schedule, a one-day road closure in State College will be delayed.

The one-day closure will now be in place Feb. 27 as work to construct the Metropolitan Building continues near North Atherton Street/SR 3014 (Business 322). The closure is necessary to facilitate placement of crane equipment on the job site. The detour was previously scheduled for Feb. 23.

On Feb. 27, the portion of Route 26 southbound (West College Avenue) between North Atherton and Barnard streets will be closed and a detour will be in place.

PennDOT’s official detour will direct westbound traffic from West College Avenue/Route 26 to South Atherton Street/SR 3014 to University Drive Extension/Whitehall Road and back to West College Avenue/Route 26.

Message boards and detour signing will be in place. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow official detour signs, and always buckle up.

The change to the February schedule will also delay the return of the detour in March. Plans now call for the detour to return March 16-18 instead of March 9–11. PennDOT will issue a reminder on that closure prior to its implementation.
