Dr. Terry Engelder, Penn State Professor of Geosciences and leading authority on the shale gas play, will discuss research on residual treatment water in gas shale in this month’s Monthly Shale Webinar series.
“The Fracking-Water Nexus: Issues Encountered by Industry” will be held Thursday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Engelder will cover many of the questions that the public might have concerning the reasons why there is such a large difference between the volume of water injected during fracture stimulation of a well (typically 5 million gallons) and the amount of flow back (typically about 1 million gallons).
The major question is where does the extra 4 million gallons go and will that 4 million gallons, somehow, contaminate drinking water?
