Kansas City, MO (KCTV) — It’s the recording that has seasoned Kansas City Police Department detectives shaking their heads.
Two criminals broke into a home despite seeing a surveillance camera recording their every move and even recruited a buddy to help them.
And now Kansas City police hope you will recognize the crooks on the recording and turn them in.
Kenneth Ives installed security cameras outside his south Kansas City apartment after he had problems at another home.
On Dec. 22, those cameras came in handy.
“It’s the best $300 I’ve ever spent,” Ives said.
Ives discovered the burglary when he got home that evening. The thieves got away with sentimental items.
“It was a total mess. It is really disturbing that people would come in and go through your personal property,” he said.
He then watched the recording. He said the reaction of one of the crooks is priceless when he realizes there is a camera.
But they don’t run away.
“It’s kind of amazing to me the audacity of people. They are on camera but still continue to commit the crime,” Ives said.
But when they can’t get the door open, they bring in stupid criminal No. 3 for help.
“They appear to be what I would term as amateurs but it appears they brought in an adult male who has more knowledge for lack of a better word,” said Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Brian Williams.
He said the older man appears to be training the younger burglars to become “better burglars.”
At one time, a teen looks at the camera, head nods, throws up a hand sign and smirks.
They even tried to turn off the camera but their mugs have been captured for prosperity. And that includes on the list of dumbest criminals in the annals of the KCPD.
He said these criminals rank “about a 9.5” on the stupid-criminals scale.
