DUBOIS – A DuBois woman is facing charges for allegedly taking nearly $3,000 from a member of the military.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office Feb. 6, Destiny Dawn Gasbarre, 26, 1458 Hungry Hollow Rd., DuBois, is charged by the Sandy Township police with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, access device fraud and forgery.

According to the affidavit, on Oct. 3, the victim reported that her Navy Federal Check Card had been stolen from the house she was staying, located at 1458 Hungry Hollow Rd. in Sandy Township. The victim said she is on active duty with the U.S. Navy and is presently stationed in Mississippi. The victim said between Aug. 12 and Sept. 12, she was staying at the house on Hungry Hollow Road on leave.

The victim said when she arrived back in Mississippi, she attempted to pay her rent but discovered a zero balance in her account. The victim said she checked her bank statement and saw several unauthorized charges and discovered her federal check card was missing. The charges were made to various businesses in the DuBois, Sandy Township and Huston Township areas. A total of $2,877.83 had been charged to the victim’s account.

The victim told police that Gasbarre, who also stays at the house on Hungry Hollow Road, had contacted her via Facebook and through text messages asking to talk to her about the issue. The victim told police that she was told by others at the house that Gasbarre had taken the check card from the victim’s purse.

Police were able to obtain security video from one of the businesses where the stolen card had been used, which shows Gasbarre using the card and signing the victim’s name.
