CLEARFIELD – Hav Sommo Café held its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday. Hav Sommo Café is locally-owned and operated by Elaine Newkirk, announced Clearfield Revitalization Corp. Main Street Manager, Loretta Wagner.

Hav Sommo Cafe is a unique spot with “down home, southern style” cuisine and baked goods, said Wagner. Hav Sommo Café is located at 232 E. Market St. in downtown Clearfield.

“This is very exciting for Clearfield. Not only is Hav Sommo Café a locally-owned business, but this also serves as an opportunity for the community to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“There truly is potential for growth and prosperity in our hometown of Clearfield. With that in mind, I would like to wish Elaine and her staff success with the business.”

Clearfield County Commissioners John A. Sobel and Mark B. McCracken participated in the ceremony to welcome the Hav Sommo Café to downtown Clearfield and wished them the best.

“The addition of a southern style restaurant to Clearfield County only enhances the varied and unique cuisine that residents and visitors alike find here in our community. Many traditions and cultures come together in Clearfield County and make this a wonderful place to live,” stated Sobel and McCracken.

Sobel and McCracken stated that they were impressed by Newkirk’s spirit of charity. They said, “Her devotion to building something in the community that is dedicated to employing young people in their first jobs is something special.”

Sobel and McCracken also thanked everyone for taking part in the grand opening, including many members of the Clearfield Ministerium. Wagner added that numerous local officials also came out in support of Clearfield.

Wagner stated, “It’s heartwarming to see so many different folks in town come out to support their local business. The stronger the support is from the community, the easier it will be for Clearfield to revitalize itself.

“Hopefully, this sets the trend for all businesses and the community, as we continue to buy and stay local and show support of our hometown. One business cannot pave the way for the town; it’s all of businesses working together to support each other that makes revitalization possible.

“After seeing the turn out today, I am confident Clearfield is heading in the right direction.”

Hav Sommo Café is located next to the Clearfield County Courthouse Annex and Historica Plus Antiques and Collectibles. It’s open Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Summertime hours will include live music and youth activities. For more information, please check out the Hav Sommo Café Facebook page, Twitter @Havsommocafe or call 814-768-7740.
