CLEARFIELD – Staff members at Visit Clearfield County (VCC) have announced the weekly events for Feb.6-12.

Ritz Theater, downtown Clearfield

Monday-Sunday

The theater’s lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. You can grab some popcorn, even if you cannot attend the movie showings. For movies and show times, please call 814-765-5835.

Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children (12 years and under) and senior citizens (60 years and older).

The theater will show a free movie, The Lion King, on Sunday, Feb. 8 and Beauty and the Beast on Sunday, March 1. Both will be shown at 2 p.m.

Winter Reading Program

Curwensville Public Library

The Curwensville Public Library will host its Winter Reading Program that will run through Feb. 23. The program is for ages 1 to 18 years.  There will be prizes for minutes read.  Children can use required reading for school as library reading, too.  Children can pick up packets during library hours. You can stop in or call the library at 814-236-0355.

Ice Skating Sessions

Friends of Parker Dam

Ice skating sessions are scheduled from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Fridays and from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturdays until the ice becomes unsafe.  At these skating sessions, skate rentals are available, as well as hot chocolate, hot dogs and chili from the Friends of Parker Dam.  The skating area (not skate rentals) is open daily during normal park hours (8 a.m. – dusk), after any snow on the rink has been cleared by park staff. Parker Dam State Park is located at 28 Fairview Rd., Penfield. Call 814-765-0630 for more information.

Friday Night Live!

“Michaelangelo,” Pennsylvania’s best all-round comedy adult and family show, has performed at Caesars Palace, several Caesars resorts, Heinz Field and PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Convention Center and the Penn State Nittany Lion Resort, along with at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, Calif.

Michaelangelo’s “rare and entertaining” style of magic weaves comedy and illusions with cards, coins, money and borrowed jewelry. This act will be featured during the next Friday Night Live, according to event organizer Steve Albert.

Friday Night Live is an open mic/variety show that takes place the first Friday of every month at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre. The next show is 7 p.m. Feb. 6 on the main stage at the CAST. Admission is $4 per person; doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Beast Feast

Annual Sportsmen’s Banquet

Free wild game appetizers will be available starting at 5 p.m. with a delicious roast beef dinner being served at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 during the “Beast Feast” at the Hyde Wesleyan Church.

The banquet’s guest speaker, Andy Peterson of Lion King Ministries, will present at 7 p.m.  Guests will hear a detailed account of his adventure of surviving a mountain lion attack.

Tickets are $12 per person and are available by calling the church office at 814-765-5958. The Hyde Wesleyan Church is located at 1215 Riverview Rd. Clearfield.

Winter Adventures

Trail Blazer Adventures

Trail Blazer Adventures has announced 2015 Winter Adventures, including XC ski and snowshoe, weather conditions permitting, through March 15.

Trail Blazer Adventures will meet at Aletta’s Farm Market (located on the Curwensville/Grampian Highway) every Sunday at 2 p.m. to snowshoe/XC-ski the Clearfield/Grampian Rail-Trail or Bilger’s Rocks Trails.

After trail-blazing at your own pace, everyone will meet at the Place of Rocks Roadhouse for refreshments.

At 10 a.m. Tuesdays, there will be “Babies & Books” with Miss Becky. Babies who are up to 2 years old and their parent or caregiver will enjoy this interactive storytime full of finger-plays, songs, stories and bonding time.

At 11 a.m. Tuesdays, there will be “Thrilling Threes” with Miss Chris & Miss Jayme:  Children will enjoy stories, songs, finger-plays and fun. Children will work on their independence while their parents can enjoy the library.

At 10 a.m. Thursdays, there will be “Terrific Twos” with Miss Becky. Children who are 2 year olds and their parent or caregiver will enjoy this fun-filled storytime packed with books, songs and finger-plays.

At 11 a.m. Thursdays, there will be “Fantastic Fours & Fives” with Miss Chris & Miss Sandy.  Children will get ready for school with stories, songs and games galore.  Children will work on their independence while their parents can enjoy the library.

Beginning Quilt Class

Quilter’s Stash Plus

This seven-week class will meet every Thursday and take you through each step of the quilting process from choosing the fabric all the way to machine quilting and binding edges. The cost is $50 plus materials.
