PITTSBURGH – The DuBois Area High School Mock Trial Team competed at the 12th annual University of Pittsburgh Invitational at the beginning of January and came home with a perfect 4-0 record over the two days.
“This was the first time we had ever won more than two trials at this invitational,” said coach Chris Taylor. “The students really came alive in the competitive setting, and I think it brought out the best in a lot of them.”
More than 40 teams from across the state participate in the event, and the list includes many former mock trial state champions.
In the first trial, DuBois Area defeated cross-town rival DuBois Central Catholic, 107-105. Eli Kirk was named best witness. The second trial of the first day saw DuBois Area knock off Tyrone, 106-93. Payton McAninch earned the award for best attorney.
On the second day of competition, DuBois Area took down Cumberland Valley B, 100-89, and Franklin Regional A, 103-98. Julian Gregorio and Emily Chambers earned recognition as the best witness in each of the trials.
Also competing were Annelise Kephart, Sidney Buchanan, Dominic Gregorio, Larrisa Miller, Nate Horner, Jade Geer, R.J. Marek and Brenden DuBois.
