Roy Andrew Mason, 86, of Hudson, Philipsburg, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at his home.

Born Sept. 7, 1928 in Decatur Township, he was the youngest of seven children to LeRoy H. and Minnie Belinda (Waple) Mason.

He was a 1946 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. He was a two-time District 6-9 Wrestling Champion.

For two years, he worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. and for 36 years he worked for the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired.

Mr. Mason served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from June 1946 to June 1948 during World War II and received the Victory Medal.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, planting flowers and feeding the animals. He was loved by all.

On March 15, 1950 in Philipsburg, he married Mary Lou (Miller) Mason, whom died Dec. 19, 2004.

He is survived by two brothers, the Rev. James Mason of Ohio and Leslie Mason of Harrisburg; two sisters, Edna Dunkle of Milesburg and Campcey Richner of Houtzdale and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Andrew Mason Jr., whom died Dec. 31, 1955, and A. Lawrence “LeRoy” Mason, whom died May 11, 1997; a brother, Charlie “Chuck” Mason; and a sister, Mildred Smeal.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.

Military honors will follow and will be conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
