Cross Country Skiing Basics Program to be held at Sinnemahoning

AUSTIN – Visitors can join the Sinnemahoning State Park staff for a fun lesson on the popular sport of cross-country skiing.

On Jan. 31, Sinnemahoning State Park will offer Cross Country Skiing Basics, a program for first-timers as well as experienced skiers. All equipment, including skis, poles, and boots, plus instruction will be provided. A limited number of adult-sized skis and equipment are available. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 28

The program will begin in the classroom of the Park Office & Wildlife Center with a brief introduction to the sport of cross country skiing and an overview of ski equipment, then move outdoors where park staff will personally teach basic techniques and give participants an opportunity to practice their skills before venturing out on the trail.

Due to limited number and sizes of skis and boots, pre-registration is required for this program.  All participants should be prepared for outdoor activity.  Please dress for the weather, wearing layers of moisture-wicking fabrics.  Waterproof shoes or boots, plus rain-pants, are strongly recommended.

If there isn’t sufficient snow cover to ski, the program will be cancelled.  Registered participants will be notified of the status of the program by Jan. 29.

For more information or to register for this free program, please call the Sinnemahoning State Park Office and Wildlife Center at 814-647-8401. Additional details can be found at www.visitPAparks.com; click on “Events Calendar” on the left and search “Sinnemahoning.”
