TYRONE – The Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute (BCWHI) is holding a quilt raffle to benefit its Breast Cancer Voucher Program.
The Voucher Program provides assistance to patients of BCWHI who are uninsured or underinsured to help with the financial pressures associated with breast cancer.
Those who enter the raffle have an opportunity to win a hand-crafted Amish quilt. The quilt features traditional, intricate Amish quilting with beautiful appliqué.
The quilt is 96 inches wide by 96 inches tall and sized to fit either a queen- or king-sized bed. The estimated retail value is $1,200 to $1,500.
Lannette Johnston, director of Outreach and the Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute at Tyrone Regional Health Network said the quilt was donated by a Tyrone resident who wishes to remain anonymous.
“We were extremely grateful for the lovely donation and support for the voucher program.” Johnston said costs associated with breast cancer can be expensive, causing increased stressors for the patients.
“Coupled with the fears of having cancer, many patients struggle with those additional stressors. The voucher program assists patients with additional costs not covered by insurance.
“Some of those costs include: transportation, co- pays for medications, procedures, prosthetics, wigs, utilities, etc. At the BCWHI, it is our goal to help alleviate the challenges caused by cancer.”
Raffle tickets for the quilt are now on sale through April 15 and may be purchased for $5 each by contacting Lannette Johnston at 814-682-1800.
The winner will be drawn April 25 during the BCWHI’s Women’s Healthy Living Expo.
