PENFIELD – Thick ice and a blanket of snow heralded the arrival of the Clearfield YMCA WinterFest. Old favorites and new arrivals filled out the schedule of activities for this year’s event at the Parker Dam State Park.
Saturday’s activities saw the introduction of the “Freeze Your Gizzard 5k,” the “Blizzard Volleyball Tournament” and the “Chick’n Chuck’n” with the return of Snow Sculpture Judging.
Sunday saw classics, such as “Ice Harvesting,” the “Kids Snow Box Derby,” the “Frozen Salami Sling” and the “Almost Naked Mile;” it was capped off with the “Polar Bear Swim.”
Educational sessions were also held for snow shoe basics, cross-country skiing, winter fur coats, etc.
Three people braved the “Almost Naked Mile” and nine took the plunge for the “Polar Bear Swim.”
