Richard C. Freeman, 84, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at the Independent Court of Erie.

He was born Nov. 25, 1930, a son of the late William and Ernestine (Rafferty) Freeman.

Mr. Freeman retired in 1995 from Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co., where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for 39 years. Prior to that, he worked with his father at the Freeman Coal Co.

He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. He was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Freeman served during the Korean War.

He is survived by three children, Cathleen Berry of Chalfont, Robert Freeman and his wife, Mary of Erie and Karen Harvey and her husband, Charles of Philadelphia.

He is survived by seven grandchildren, Daniel Berry and his wife, Diandra, Michael and Brian Berry, Katherine Paulsen and her husband, Eirik, Elizabeth Strahin and Christopher and Brielle Harvey; a brother, Robert Freeman and his wife, Debbie of Clearfield; and his sister-in-law, Audry Freeman of Clearfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret ‘Peggy’ (Perks) Freeman on May 18, 2004 and whom he wed May 15, 1954 in Clearfield. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Donald Freeman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Fr. John Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Honor Guards.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Catholic Church, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Independence Court and Asera Care Hospice.
