BELLEFONTE – An attorney openly directed allegations of forgery against Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks-Miller on Tuesday.
Attorney Bernie Cantora requested the Centre County Commissioners to assist with an investigation into Parks-Miller at the commissioners’ weekly meeting.
Upon discussion the commissioners voted, 3-0, to approve a special prosecutor to investigate the allegations. Cantora told the commissioners that he believed Parks-Miller forged a judge’s name to a court document in July of 2013 and it should be under investigation.
The commissioners concurred with Cantora. “I do believe the allegations are serious enough to be investigated by an independent authority,” Commissioner Chris Exarcho said. “We are compelled to call for a special prosecutor to investigate Stacy Parks-Miller.”
Parks-Miller defended herself to WJAC-TV reporter Gary Sinderson last week when these allegations started to come to light. Sinderson has been following this story for weeks.
Parks-Miller told Sinderson that she did not forge the judge’s signature. A complaint was filed on Dec. 30, 2014 from Attorney Philip Masorti to the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
The complaint alleges Parks-Miller forged county Judge Pamela Ruest’s name to an order that would lower the bail of an inmate. The inmate was acting as an informant against another county inmate.
The complaint was filed by Masorti on behalf of a paralegal who used to work in the district attorney’s office but who now works for Masorti, the documents stated.
“If these allegations are true, I would call on the district attorney to resign,” Commissioner Michael Pipe added.
