A 4.4-magnitude earthquake shook west-central California on Tuesday morning, centered about 120 miles southeast of San Francisco, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Light shaking was reported around the quake, whose epicenter was about 6 miles deep in a mountainous area east of the Salinas Valley, the USGS said.
No serious damage was immediately reported.
The epicenter was in a sparsely populated area. One of the nearest cities, Greenfield, with a population of more than 16,000, is 17 miles away.
