CLEARFIELD – On July 28, 2014, Chelsea Folmar of Luthersburg was crowned the 26th fair queen on the grandstand stage at the Clearfield County Fair.

Since then, she’s devoted her reign as fair queen to raising funds for charity, participating in community events and attending college in Kentucky.

The next chapter of Folmar’s journey as fair queen will begin Thursday, as she competes for the title of Pennsylvania State Fair Queen in Hershey at the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF) Convention. There will be a total of 59 young women representing fairs and festivals from across the state competing this year.

Prior to the convention, Folmar submitted an essay on “What the Fair Means to My Community” for judging. She will attend orientation Thursday afternoon and the PSACF banquet in the evening where the evening gown and introduction segment of the competition will be held.

On Friday, she will take part in a personal interview with the judges, a seminar entitled “Young Women’s Leadership” and a judge’s reception. On Saturday, she will volunteer to sell raffle tickets to support the State Fair Queen Program and present her speech “Why You Should Come to My Fair” to the judges. The speech portion is the final segment of the competition.

On Saturday evening at the coronation dinner, five young women will be announced as the top finalists. The top five will then be asked an impromptu question. The judges will make their final decision and a new Pennsylvania State Fair Queen will be crowned.

The new State Queen will participate in a variety of events throughout the year to promote the fair industry and agriculture.

“I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to represent the Clearfield County Fair and the amazing community that I call home,” said Folmar.

“Through my experiences on the fair queen court and competing with my horse, I have gained an appreciation for this fair and everyone who makes it possible.”

Folmar added, “I would like to thank the Fair & Park Board and my fabulous committee for all of their help and support this year. This past year has been fantastic and I hope to continue that trend first at Hershey and then throughout 2015.”
