A central Florida mall was being cleared “store by store” Saturday after reports of a shooting, police said.
The Melbourne Police Department said on Twitter that officers “have control of (the) situation” and that the Melbourne Square Mall was closed.
“The shooter has been contained but there is no confirmed word on injuries or fatalities,” Mebourne police dispatcher Kathy Pechacek said.
A witness said gunfire erupted in the food court and two people were injured before the gunman shot himself, CNN affiliate WESH reported.
Another tweet from police said officers were “clearing the mall store by store.”
A caller to 911 reported the shooting at about 9:30 a.m., police said.
Five or six shots were fired, according to the witness, WESH reported. The mall was closed for the day; employees were leaving through back doors.
