CLEARFIELD – Auditions for the first show of the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre season, “Painting Churches,” will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 7-8 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the CAST Building, located at 112 E. Locust St., in downtown Clearfield. Those auditioning need only attend one of the dates.
The cast of three for the comedy- drama consists of the following roles:
- Gardner Church, an aging Pulitzer Prize-winning poet slowly losing his mental abilities (age: 50’s to 70’s);
- Fanny, a slightly eccentric, tart-tongued Bostonian who loves her doddering husband but fears and resents the loss of their cultured life (age 50’s to 70’s); and
- Margaret (Mags), Gardner and Fanny’s daughter, who fled to New York for a career as a painter. An infrequent visitor home, she wants to paint a definitive portrait of her parents while she has the chance; the work also allows her an opportunity to get a good look at them, to use the artist’s objectivity with her subjects to see them as people and not just her parents (age: late 20’s – 40’s).
Rehearsals for the play, which runs March 19-21 and March 26-28, will be held weeknights (mainly Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings) until closer to performance dates. Not all cast members will be required at every rehearsal, but rehearsals are planned in advance so those auditioning are asked to please bring a list of known conflicts with them to auditions.
